State leaders from twenty-eight countries including Pakistan will attend Belt and Road Forum for international co-operation, scheduled to take place in Beijing on May 14-15. President Xi Jinping will inaugurate summit and that is a first-ever high-profile event meant to highlight the significant of the World's largest connectivity plan, said Chinese ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong on Wednesday at a function held here at a hotel.

The representatives of 110 countries, besides 61 international organisations will attend the event that will work out short and long-term strategy to strengthen connectivity at World's level for promoting peace, development and prosperity. Giving a detailed review on the Belt and Road initiative towards a community of shared future, with its historical and cultural background, he said President Xi Jinping championed the "One Belt, One Road" initiative to build a new Silk Road linking Asia, Africa and Europe, a landmark program to invest billions of dollars in infrastructure projects.

About Sino-Pak growing relationship, Ambassador Sun Weidong said this friendship is a model of state-to-state relations nurtured by the peoples of the two countries for decades and generations. It is a common wealth of our two people. We call Pakistan "iron" brother. Referring to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), he said it is a pilot project of the Belt and Road Initiative that brings about numerous benefits to the people of Pakistan across the board. The project is under implementation in full-swing that he was sure will go a long way meeting the country's energy requirements and boosting its infrastructure and transport network. Giving a look at fast-growing Chinese economy, Ambassador Sun Weidong said in 2016, Chinese GDP growth rate was 6.7%. The increment exceeds the total GDP amount in the past when the growth rate reached double-digit, and is equivalent to the total economy of a medium-sized country.

In the first quarter of this year, China's GDP grew by 6.9 percent, which is the fastest growth rate in the last 6 quarters. Given that the global economy is facing a downturn, it is not easy for China's economy to maintain a strong momentum of development.
